Attention feminists everywhere!

Less than an hour ago, the UNC Board of Trustees voted in unanimous support of the UNC-CH Gender Nonspecific Housing Campaign’s proposal to implement gender-nonspecific housing within UNC Campus Housing.  This is a huge step forward for the campaign, which Feminist Students United supports.

Although the BOT’s motion to support does not guarantee the realization of our shared vision of a more safe and supportive campus climate, it constitutes a major step forward, and encourages hopes of GNH’s implementation in the 2013-2014 academic year.

The campaign could not have made it this far without the tireless efforts of Dr. Terri Phoenix and Kevin Claybren, as well as countless students working through the Student Power Coalition, Campus Y, and countless other groups that support the campaign.  I am honored to have experienced this cathartic moment with fellow students who attended the open meeting.
